Swing System Abnormalities

May 13, 2025

Technical Investigation:

1. Bearing Distress:

- Brinell marks from shock loading (Rockwell C hardness <58).

- Insufficient grease purge (minimum 30% cavity fill during lubrication).

2. Brake System Faults:

- Parking brake solenoid coil resistance out of spec (typically 20-30Ω).

- Friction material glazing (surface roughness Ra >1.6µm).

Rectification Process:

- Swing Bearing Overhaul:

- Torque mounting bolts in star pattern to 1,200±50 N·m (CAT 320 class).

- Apply Loctite® 648 retaining compound during reassembly.

- Brake System Servicing:

- Measure brake release pressure (minimum 35 bar).

- Resurface brake discs if runout exceeds 0.15mm TIR.

Predictive Maintenance:

- Implement vibration analysis (FFT spectrum) on swing gearbox biannually.

- Use grease with EP additives (NLGI #2 lithium complex).
