Loss of Hydraulic Power or Slow Cycle Times

May 13, 2025

Causal Analysis:

1. Fluid Degradation:

- Viscosity breakdown (kinematic viscosity <40 cSt at 40°C).

- Air entrainment (foam stability >5 minutes per ASTM D892).

2. Component Wear:

- Axial piston pump wear plate delamination (clearance >15µm).

- Proportional valve spool hysteresis exceeding 5% FS.

Corrective Measures:

- Oil Condition Monitoring:

- Submit oil sample for elemental analysis (ICP-AES) to detect additive depletion.

- Replace fluid if particle count exceeds ISO 18/16/13.

- Pump Performance Verification:

- Using Fluke® 754, verify pressure compensator response time <200ms.

- Rebuild pumps with matched rotor/barrel assemblies.

- Valve Calibration:

- Adjust LS (Load Sensing) margin pressure to 2.0±0.3 MPa via test port.

Operational Guidelines:

- Maintain hydraulic oil temperature between 50-70°C during operation.

- Implement closed-loop flushing during oil changes per Vickers I-286-S.
