Correct use of windlass sprocket

Dec 06, 2020

The windlass is installed in the bow, not only exposed to the sun and rain for a long time, but also exposed to wind and waves. Related parts are easy to rust (corrosion of the windlass base should be less than 25% of the original thickness). Long-term vibration may cause the anchor mechanism parts to loosen, even cracks, deformation and other shortcomings. In addition to regular inspections and correct maintenance in daily work, the following items should be prepared for each anchor.

1. Ensure that the anchor rod, anchor crown and anchor claw are not excessively deformed, the sprocket wear is within a reasonable range, and the cross pin and the tapered pin of the connecting chain are stable and reliable. In addition, if the manufacturing or installation process of the anchor equipment is not good, there will be a gap between the cross pin and the pin hole, and the gap will gradually expand in the marine environment. When the sprocket gap is increased to a certain extent, the loose cross pin will move radially in the pin hole and it is easy to cut the pin from the inside. In this case, although the seal at the end of the pin is still intact, the pin has lost its function, causing the cross pin to slide and the anchor head to be lost. Therefore, we must attach great importance to the looseness of the horizontal pin, and can not regard it as "relative looseness".

2. Before starting the anchor oil pump, make sure that the switches of related valves (such as cooling water, compressed air and hydraulic valves) are in the correct position, and the motor operating handle should be in the zero position. After the oil pump is started, it is necessary to visually check whether the oil pressure is normal, whether there is oil leakage or abnormal noise. After everything is normal, the hoist motor can be operated. Before the formal loading operation, the clutch should be disengaged, and the control handle should be idling in one direction for several minutes, so that the hydraulic oil in the hydraulic pipeline and the windlass motor can be completely replaced. In addition, in low temperature weather, the hydraulic oil in the pipe is relatively viscous at the initial stage of the start of the windlass. If the force is suddenly applied, it is easy to cause surge and burst of oil pressure in the pipe. Therefore, in cold weather, the winch needs to be started in advance to preheat the hydraulic system.
